Dr Kim McGregor QSO is the Chief Victims Advisor to Government, and the Director of her own therapy, research and training company, Tiaki Consultants.
Kim has a more than thirty-year background of working with sexual violence as a therapist, researcher, author, trainer and advocate.
She was a founding and executive member of Te Ohaakii a Hine - National Network Ending Sexual Violence Together and Chair of the Tauiwi Caucus (2005-2013) and a member of the Task Force for Action on Sexual Violence (2007-2009).
She was a founding and executive member of Project Restore (a restorative justice programme specifically developed to deal with cases of sexual violence), and for over 10 years she was the Executive Director of Rape Prevention Education, Whakatu Mauri (2005-2015).
She is the author of the first set of ACC national guidelines for therapists working with child sexual abuse, and two self-help books for adult survivors of child sexual abuse. Her PhD and post-doctoral research focused on the therapeutic needs and physical health effects of child sexual abuse and how health professionals may best respond.
In 2015 Kim and her partner Russell Smith were commissioned by the NZ Defence Force to conduct the “Air Force Culture Review”. This review supported the NZDF to implement “Operation Respect” - a strategy to change the NZDF’s culture and deal with persistent sexism, sexual harassment and inappropriate harmful sexual behaviours.
