Golriz Ghahraman is an Iranian New Zealander, having arrived in Auckland with her parents at the age of 9 as an asylum seeker. Golriz has worked as a lawyer for the United Nations Tribunals for the former Yugoslavia, Rwanda, and Cambodia, as well as in New Zealand. Her work has specialised in human rights, including children’s rights and the rights of minorities, criminal justice, constitutional law. Golriz holds a Masters in International Human Rights Law from the University of Oxford. In 2018 she became the first refugee to enter New Zealand’s Parliament as a Green Party list MP.
